The Nova 4 Language Development e-Learning Centres (LDEC) provide students with activities they can
work on independently in order to further the language learning they experience in the classroom.
The centres consist of 12 modules which correspond to and complement
the 12 units of Dialogues found in the Nova 4 Ukrainian Language Development Series.
These modules build on the Dialogue texts and incorporate vocabulary, themes and extension activities.
The modules consist of five activity sections:
Together, these modules are designed to:
- Provide computer-based language-learning experiences tied
to Alberta Learning curriculum objectives (Ukrainian Language
Arts and Information and Communications Technology Programs of Studies);
- Develop reading and listening skills;
- Deepen students' understanding of vocabulary and concepts;
- Personalize the language covered in the classroom;
- Introduce new vocabulary related to the themes of the Dialogues;
- Introduce basic grammar concepts;
- Expose the student to different media types and provide additional opportunities for students to see, hear, and interact with Ukrainian texts;
and
- Encourage development of basic computer skills, especially use of the Cyrillic character set for keyboard input.
